Poor drainage was causing accelerated deterioration along Hawarden’s Avenue L, which serves as the primary collector route to the town’s nursing facilities and the local hospital. When repeat efforts to patch and repair this critical stretch of roadway were only fleetingly effective, the City of Hawarden partnered with DGR Engineering to develop a comprehensive approach for improving Avenue L for the long-term benefit of the community.
The improvements included installing a new storm sewer system, making repairs to the existing water main and sanitary sewer, and taking steps to improve future drainage, all before installing new 6” concrete pavement.
In the fall of 2008, the City selected DGR Engineering to reconstruct water mains, sanitary and storm sewer and the highway pavement on Jefferson Street and TH 68. DGR assisted the City in obtaining funding for approximately 70% of the project costs via grants, state aid and county participation. The project utilized funding from the below referenced sources, as well as the City. DGR provided full time construction observation and administration to aid the City and record keeping and testing required by these agencies for reimbursement.

DGR Engineering completed a recent apron expansion and runway rehabilitation project. DGR is currently designing a hangar area taxiway project. DGR previously provided design and construction services for the $3 million development of a new runway and taxiway. DGR has also managed new hangar facilities, drainage projects, pavement rehabilitation, and other related projects for a total cost of improvements at the airport of over $5 million. Current active projects include: new hangar area development, taxiway design, AWOS relocation, and private hangar development.
