Campus Improvements

DGR worked with college staff to improve the surface drainage surrounding the East Campus apartments as well as enhancing the Campus Green Space on this project.

The East Campus apartment portion of the project included storm sewer upgrades, pedestrian facilities and enhanced grading around the existing buildings to improve surface water drainage.

One of the college’s goals with this project was to remove parking from the heart of the campus, the Campus Green Space.  This was accomplished by reconfiguring the parking, vehicular access points to East Campus and Covenant Hall and by converting the Campus Green

Site Survey & Development

DGR performed the boundary and topographic surveying as well as the planning and site design of new Kids Club facility.

The project was a joint effort between Rock Rapids Kids Club, Mid-Sioux Opportunity, the City of Rock Rapids and Rock Rapids Municipal Utilities.

DGR worked with the project architect, the City of Rock Rapids, USDA-Rural Development, FEMA and the Iowa DNR to coordinate the site development within the Rock River flood plain.

The site design included designing the building pad and the main access to be above the 500-year floodplain, building service connections to municipal utilities, ADA access including the playground and handling of the site runoff to meet the Iowa Green Streets Criteria for stormwater treatment.

Pavement/Utility Improvements

In the fall of 2008, the City selected DGR to reconstruct water mains, sanitary and storm sewer and the highway pavement on Jefferson Street and TH 68.  DGR assisted the City in obtaining funding for approximately 70% of the project costs via grants, state aid and county participation.  The project utilized funding from the above referenced sources, as well as the City.  DGR provided full time construction observation and administration to aid the City and record keeping and testing required by these agencies for reimbursement.

Alley Surfacing

This pair of projects encompassed eight downtown alley blocks over two construction contracts in consecutive years.  The improvements consisted of new underground telephone, cable and electric lines; converting the old overhead equipment and repairing the full alley width with new concrete.  The project navigated converting utilities, narrow corridors and staging while minimizing disturbance to the public to create a revitalized look to the downtown business district.

Street & Utility Improvements

This project encompassed eight downtown alley blocks over a single construction season. The improvements consisted of new underground telephone, cable and electric lines and converting the old overhead equipment.  Sanitary and storm sewer mains were replaced or repaired.  The full alley width was paved with new concrete.  The project navigated narrow corridors and was staged to minimize disturbance to the public to create a revitalized look to the downtown business district.
